The game came out back in the middle of 2018. A developer known as Indivi has been plugging away at the game since then. Or, well, was plugging away at the game. The project went on hold a year or so ago and hasn’t made any progress since then. The dude is still active, but it seems like his other project called “Lust Doll Plus” took priority away from Rainy Skies. Bummer. And you can’t try out this guy’s games for free. It will cost you $5 a month over at Patreon.com/indivi to get access to the latest versions of every project. I’m not huge on paying for seemingly abandoned games. You can definitely find some free copies of this game out there if you do some searching.

Combine Any Number of Genitals With a Highly Customizable Character Creator

The game starts off with allowing you to customize your character however you see fit. You can be a dude, chick, futa, or hermaphrodite. You can even toggle off all of your genitals if that’s your kind of thing. Though I do have to sit and wonder how the fuck you take a piss without anything going on down there. Maybe I shouldn’t think about it too hard. Aside from dick and boob size, you can toggle your skin/hair color and some other minor details. These are all cosmetic and won’t have too much of an effect on how characters treat you.

Once you’ve built your perfect semi-androgynous character, you’ll be ready to take on the game. This will be the type of experience where you have to work to find the story. You’re not given an exposition dump and told to save the world from evil or any of that lame shit. You wake up in a small hovel on the bottom tier of what’s called the Pillar. There are three levels to the pillar, and life gets a lot better the higher you go. On a very basic level, this game is about finding your way to the top and living a life of space-luxury.

Piece Together the Story by Exploring a Semi Open-World

But it won’t be easy or straightforward. The bottom layer is essentially a massive junkyard, and you don’t have nearly enough dosh to buy yourself a ship. Hell, you probably couldn’t even afford to buy a single tire for one. So, you have to get money. You explore around, buy equipment, and fight monsters. You can also work at a local brothel for some decent cash every day.

It will be slow going, but you’ll start unearthing secrets. You’ll find a babe frozen in a cryogenic pod. You’ll get tied up in a local gang war. It’s pretty fucking fun. All of these small actions and side-quests will eventually lead to you getting a ship, but that’s not even close to the end of your journey. I won’t spoil anything for you guys, but it gets pretty intense.

Unique Grid-Based Gameplay

Gameplay in Rainy Skies is unique. You control a blinking square on a gridded map. That’s your character. You move that around and can interact with all sorts of shit. It may be a little unconventional, but I liked it. Plus, I’m always down for some unconventional shit if you know what I mean. Bring in that dominatrix slut and let’s get fucking kinky. Anyway, yeah, you slide the square around to explore areas.

I wish combat was more interesting. It gets more complex as the game goes on, but it’s still just basic turn-based combat without much flair. It usually comes down to spamming attacks or using special moves to win. I think a mini-game of some sort would have made this more engaging, but it’s still serviceable as a combat system. It just ends up feeling like a time-filler more than anything else.

Amateur Art Style that may not be for Everyone

The game also has a unique way of presenting visuals. I’ll be honest here, I’m not a huge fan of the art style. It looks like the kind of shit you’d see from a first-time digital artist. The proportions are all jacked up. Every character looks the same but with different hair. I actually think they use the same body model for most of the main characters.

It just felt lazy. I’d consider hiring a professional lewd artist to get some better illustrations in here. But the background art is good! At least this cuck knows how to set a scene. And, for what it’s worth, the writing is decent. There’s a lot of quality storytelling in this title. While the dialog might not read as very natural or flow super well, the writer here still managed to get the important shit across in an engaging way.

Sex Scenes With Erotic Descriptions and a Scattering of Uncensored Illustrations

But let’s talk about the sex scenes. They’re decent. Some scenes will just have erotic descriptions while others will have a few pieces of lewd art. Everything is uncensored, but you’ll be hard-pressed to actually see much of anything. It’s usually just a topless shot of a hot babe while your character lays down with a hard-on. You don’t get any animations or HD illustrations to help you get off. It’s almost entirely done via erotic descriptions and infrequent, amateur illustrations. And there’s rarely a change in position. Let me see these babes bend over and spread their cheeks!

This game won’t hold your hand and walk you through the plot. It’s a wide-open experience where you’ll need to piece every detail together. I fuck with that. It’s nice having a game with an actual story to tell. I know you fucks love those super colorful h-games with big-tittied waifus, but those stories are usually shallower than my ex. And, trust me, that’s saying something. While the game did have a slow start, I found myself getting pretty fucking invested in the story and characters as the game went on.

Man, this game really needs some better artwork. I feel kind of shitty saying that since this cuck probably spent hours trying to create these characters. But it’s true. This game would be so much fucking better if they brought in a more talented artist to really flesh out the h-scenes and overall character designs. Oh, and consider adding in some kinky audio during the sex scenes. It doesn’t have to be much. Even some generic moans or something would make these scenes that much more immersive and fapworthy.

Overall, Rainy Skies is a bit of an acquired taste. It’s definitely not a bad game at all. It’s incredibly well done and thought out. It just won’t be for everyone. It takes a very different approach to storytelling and exploration when compared to your standard sex game. This is the kind of game that focuses more on storytelling than porn. And I know that might be a dealbreaker for some of you horny gamers. Just know that this shit is packed with loads of kinky fetish scenes. It will just take you a while to find and experience them.
